Cultural & Intellectual History between East & West
Subjects: Culture;History
M.A. | Master of Arts
Course description
Sharing a common cultural heritage, Eastern and Western Europe have carved distinct paths in scholarship and learning. At the heart of these traditions lies European humanism and its scholarly community. Today, reflecting on the legacies of humanism is crucial. We must build our knowledge and values on these foundations and share their experiences. The "Cultural and Intellectual History Between East and West" double degree master’s programme unites the best scholarly traditions from both regions. This programme delves into the history of cultural contacts in philology, as well as cultural and intellectual history, spanning from the Middle Ages to the twenty-first century. It equips students and future scholars with philological and historical skills, enabling them to work with primary sources and trace cultural, intellectual, and linguistic processes to their origins. For the first time, this programme offers an identical curriculum across four universities in Western, Central, South Eastern, and Eastern Europe. This unique approach fosters a comprehensive understanding of the intertwined histories and cultures of these regions.
