Course description

The Faculty of East Asian Studies, established in 1965, aims to invigorate research and teaching in this field. Our study programs equip students to explore East Asia comprehensively and across various academic disciplines. We focus on China, Japan, and Korea, employing diverse methodologies from history, literature, philology, philosophy, political science, linguistics, and economics. Recognizing the importance of language skills, we offer extensive and thorough instruction in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, covering both modern and ancient forms. Our graduates possess linguistic proficiency, discipline-specific knowledge, cultural understanding, and analytical skills, preparing them for diverse professional paths. Depending on their specialization, our alumni thrive in business (corporations and banks), cultural organizations (museums, media), education (high schools, universities, adult education), scholarly exchange institutions, political organizations, the diplomatic service, and international organizations.
