Course description

With our Master programme, you’ll embark on a unique, multi-layered study course designed to prepare you for a diverse career and professional life. This course has a clinical direction, focusing on psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches, and offers solid education and training in research methods. Additionally, it broadens your knowledge with in-depth insights from non-clinical application areas of psychological and psychoanalytic thinking. Our curriculum aligns with the recommendations of the German Psychological Society (DGPs). A key focus is on mastering fundamental diagnostic, counselling, and therapeutic competencies. The psychoanalytic direction of the course is evident, as it emphasizes psychoanalytic methods alongside behavioural therapy, Gestalt therapy, systemic, and other approaches. Students will not only learn psychoanalysis as a psychotherapeutic method but also explore it as a cultural theory and applied social science. The Berlin Senate has officially approved and accredited this study course, ensuring its quality and relevance.

Candidates wishing to enroll in the Master of Arts Psychology degree from the IPU Berlin can apply online via uni-assist. uni-assist is a non-profit organization that evaluates international school and university certificates on behalf of German universities. uni-assist assesses whether the submitted school/university certificates are equivalent to German school/university degrees, i.e. whether they qualify in principle for admission to university studies in Germany.
