Qualification Requirements
Quality of the degree: The undergraduate degree must have been completed with an overall grade of 2.5 or better. • Relevance/affinity of the degree: - The undergraduate degree must generally be in a modern philological subject and with a focus on literary studies, as the main subject. If only the minor subject is relevant, you can also be admitted if the content studied in the field of literary studies is sufficient. - In principle, the undergraduate degree can also be in a suitable 'related' subject (such as philosophy, cultural studies, classical philology, art history, etc.). In this case, too, it may be possible to be admitted: subjects with basic philological training in the BA degree (e.g. Latin studies or Greek studies) can be recognized as a prerequisite without any further requirements. For other subjects, requirements are imposed on a case-by-case basis (additional seminars from the literary studies parts of a corresponding BA subject), which must be fulfilled by the end of the second semester.
Document Requirements
German applicants with foreign qualifications (e.g. foreign Abitur, International Baccalaureate Diploma) must submit a copy of a certificate within the application deadline , which shows that the qualifications are equivalent or have the same status as a German school-leaving certificate. Exception: Applicants with the “European Baccalaureate” certificate do not have to submit this certificate additionally. The certificate can be applied for at the Stuttgart regional council or another responsible office from another federal state. The federal state in which the applicant resides is responsible for the assessment. If you are a German citizen and want to apply to study in Baden-Württemberg with proof from abroad, the Stuttgart Regional Council is also responsible for you. The certificate must contain the date of acquisition of the university entrance qualification as well as the general and/or special average grade corresponding to a German school leaving certificate.
