Course description

Globalization and economic development, social entrepreneurship and urbanization, migration and environmental issues: these challenges are deeply intertwined with the interaction between people and the environment. Experts in these fields need a broad, interdisciplinary understanding. At Christian Albrechts University of Kiel (CAU), you can pursue a master's program in Sustainability, Society, and the Environment. This program equips you with both conceptual and practical knowledge in sustainability research. You will start by grasping the global dimensions of sustainable development issues. Then, you will learn to analyze these problems scientifically at regional and local levels. This approach will prepare you to devise effective solutions for these pressing challenges.

The SSE program is taught in English. All applicants must provide a language certificate. We accept the following English language certificates at the grades specified: IELTS (overall score of 7.5) or TOEFL® iBT (Internet-based test, overall score of 110) or Certificate of Proficiency in English from the English Department at Kiel University with C1 level in all four categories (1. listening; 2. speaking; 3. reading/grammar; 4. writing).

Qualification Requirements

We accept applicants with a first degree that satisfies the following requirements. A degree with a standard period of study lasting at least three years at a German university or comparable foreign institution of higher education, which was completed with a Bachelor's examination or equivalent final examination with at least 180 ECTS credit points and a grade of 2.5 or better . You should have studied in the following two fields of study: social sciences, economics and business, media and communication (at least 90 ECTS credit points) environmental sciences, natural sciences (at least 30 ECTS credit points) If the degree certificate is not yet available at the time of application, a transcript of records with at least 120 ECTS credit points needs to be submitted. The transcript of records must state a provisional overall grade.
