Course description
A mathematician isn't just defined by their specialized knowledge. They stand out for their ability to think abstractly and logically, and to grasp and organize complex concepts. These skills are crucial in various business and industry tasks. For instance, mathematicians create risk forecasts for insurance companies and analyze rate developments in financial management, such as stock markets. They also enhance encoding techniques for online banking, phone communications, and digital media like music and images. Additionally, they optimize travel routes for trains, buses, and airplanes. In the automotive, aerospace, and steel industries, as well as in medicine, mathematicians develop mathematical models. They also process and evaluate data for banks and insurance companies. Study subjects and programs that prepare individuals for these roles include mathematics, applied mathematics, financial mathematics, and data science. These programs equip students with the necessary skills to excel in these diverse and impactful tasks.
