Our master’s program offers the perfect opportunity for you! Paderborn stands out as one of only two places in North Rhine-Westphalia that adopts a natural science approach to materials science, with a strong focus on functional materials. We emphasize interdisciplinary research and foster close cooperation between the Faculties of Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. This collaboration allows you to tailor your focus by choosing from elective course areas such as “Materials Analysis,” “Materials Processing,” “Advanced Functional Materials,” or “Computational Materials Science.” You will learn to conduct fundamental research and apply your findings in practical settings. Materials science serves as the ideal bridge between research and real-world application, a fact underscored by the numerous institutes dedicated to this field, including the Fraunhofer Institute. High proficiency of the English language lf you have not earned your B.Sc. qualification in an English-speaking country, you will need to provide a suitable English language qualification. This can be demonstrated by a TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper and pencil) or 79 (internet-based) or an equivalent qualification (e.g. Cambridge first certificate)
Qualification Requirements
To study at a German university, a general higher education entrance qualification is required. You should have a Bachelor of Science in physics, chemistry, materials science or a related subject. Minimum result in this degree: 3.0 according to the German grading system (or equivalent)
Document Requirements
Copy of a secondary school leaving certificate which qualifies you to study at university level in your home country (please make sure that you provide proof of all grades you obtained) Proof of language proficiency (copy sufficient) If you have taken a university entrance exam, its results are needed as well (e.g. for applicants from Bosnia, Korea, Kosovo, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye and USA) Copies of all other relevant documents such as academic transcripts, references, final degree certificates Resume/CV, showing a complete chronological list of your education and training up to the time of application If you intend to earn a PhD, you must be accepted as a doctoral candidate by a professor from an academic department of the University of Paderborn before the application process.
