Course description
The master’s program in Electrical System Engineering (MS ESE) spans two years and is structured into four semesters. It includes three semesters of coursework and a six-month Master's thesis. MS ESE offers two specializations: Signal & Information Processing and Electronics & Devices. The Signal & Information Processing track delves into the computational aspects of system behavior. In contrast, the Electronics & Devices track focuses on IC design at the micro or nano scale and hardware implementation. Most courses are taught by the department's full professors. Additionally, renowned international professors visit Paderborn to deliver guest lectures on advanced systems engineering topics. The program also includes practically oriented advanced courses taught by industry lecturers.

High proficiency of the English language. We accept the following certificates: a bachelor degree gained in an English-speaking country, a German bachelor degree obtained in a study program that has been accredited as an English language program, TOEFL with a minimum result of 585 (pencil and paper) or 87 (internet), Cambridge English: First (FCE), IELTS with a minimum result of 6.0.
Qualification Requirements
To study at a German university, a general higher education entrance qualification is required. You should have a Bachelor of Science in in electrical engineering or a related field. Minimum result in this degree: 2.5 according to the German grading system (or equivalent) The Examinations Board shall determine compliance with these requirements.
Document Requirements
Copy of a secondary school leaving certificate which qualifies you to study at university level in your home country (please make sure that you provide proof of all grades you obtained) Proof of language proficiency (copy sufficient) If you have taken a university entrance exam, its results are needed as well (e.g. for applicants from Bosnia, Korea, Kosovo, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye and USA) Copies of all other relevant documents such as academic transcripts, references, final degree certificates Resume/CV, showing a complete chronological list of your education and training up to the time of application If you intend to earn a PhD, you must be accepted as a doctoral candidate by a professor from an academic department of the University of Paderborn before the application process.
