Course description

Given the constant increase in data volumes and complexity, data analysis is becoming more crucial. Handling large datasets, statistical modeling, visualization, and pattern recognition with machine learning are essential skills. Ethical and legal questions also play a significant role. Experts are urgently needed for developments in intelligent vehicles, smart homes, artificial intelligence, and social media. The course aims to equip graduates to support data-driven decisions comprehensively. It targets Bachelor graduates interested in statistics and information technology who want to deepen their knowledge. Students receive interdisciplinary training in classic statistical methods, programming, database systems, and machine learning. This foundational framework is enhanced by practical events in statistical consulting and business analytics, research-related events like a research colloquium, and discussions on ethical, legal, and social impacts. The course offers students the chance to deepen their understanding of statistics and information technology at a high level. Due to the program's strong interdisciplinarity and various entry options, it is available in two content-adapted variants.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) "Internet-based" Test (IBT) with a score of at least 90, − IELTS test with a score of at least 7.0, − Cambridge Test - Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), − UNIcert Level III, − Completion of a relevant module "Language Acquisition Level C1" at Bielefeld University’s Fachsprachenzentrum (Language Center), − a certificate from a state or state-recognized school or university explicitly confirming English language proficiency at level C1 CEFR. The "Merkblatt zum Zeugnis der allgemeinen Hochschulreife für Schülerinnen und Schüler der gymnasialen Oberstufe an Gymnasien und Gesamtschulen" (Information leaflet on the Certificate of General Higher Education Entrance Qualification for Students in Upper Secondary Education at Grammar Schools and Comprehensive Schools) of the Ministry for School and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, as of August 2018 is used to evaluate school certificates obtained in Germany.
