The program is dedicated to understanding and analyzing the most critical environmental issue of the 21st century: Global Change. Addressing these new and interdisciplinary problems requires innovative research and educational approaches. A key focus of the program is integrating natural science perspectives on global change with social science disciplines. This elite study program combines the expertise of the Universities of Bayreuth and Augsburg, along with Bavarian research institutions, and economic, administrative, and international organizations. Unique in Germany, it stands at the forefront of international efforts. The goal is to train highly qualified leaders for roles in science, environmental protection, and political or economic decision-making. The program's curriculum includes study subjects that bridge natural and social sciences, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of global change. A university degree (or completed course of studies) in the Bachelor’s programmes Biology, Geography or Geo-Ecology &Environmental Studies, International Economics & Development, Philosophy & Economics, Physics, a degree for teaching at public schools (Bachelor, first state examinations, Magister) or a law degree (Bachelor, Diplom, first law examination) at the University of Bayreuth or an equal degree Equivalency Equivalency of the completed bachelor's degree is the responsibility of the board of examiners and is not determined conclusively until the application process is under way; for further inquiries regarding the application or to the assessment procedure please contact the coordinators via gce@uni-bayreuth.de Aptitude Assessment Process One prerequisite for admission to the programme is the passing of an aptitude assessment process (see Examination Regulations, Annex 2), which is conducted in English; it includes an evaluation of the applicant's qualifications and, if necessary, a personal interview (stage II of the aptitude assessment process)
