Course description

The English Master’s program in Insect Biotechnology and Bioresources is a collaborative effort by the Faculty 09 Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, and Environmental Management, the Faculty 08 Biology and Chemistry, and the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences. Insects, with over a million scientifically described species, represent the largest group of organisms on Earth. This interdisciplinary field of insect biotechnology delves into the potential of insects and their associated micro- and macroorganisms as new bioresources for various sectors, including medicine, plant protection, pharmacy, industrial food, and biotechnology. Throughout your studies, you will engage deeply with the systematics and ecology of insects. You will gain specific scientific and technical knowledge, and learn various research methods to explore insects and their associated organisms. These studies aim to uncover new resources for food, luxury food, enzymes, and bioactive natural products, ultimately refining fully-developed products. The program emphasizes research and practical relevance, featuring a high level of interdisciplinary approaches and projects. This ensures that you not only learn theoretical concepts but also apply them in real-world scenarios, preparing you for a future in this innovative field.
