Course description

The last two decades have seen enormous technological progress, leading to innovative products and services that heavily rely on mathematical achievements. Modern mathematics is crucial for advanced applications in digital media. It underpins the secure and reliable transmission of digital data, ensures information confidentiality, protects intellectual property, and aids in pattern recognition in image and video data. It also plays a vital role in analyzing and optimizing data networks and satellite-based navigation. Without modern mathematics, we wouldn't have mobile phones, secure online payments, digital TV, MP3 players, quick web searches, or QR codes. The modeling, analysis, and simulation of computer and social networks also depend on advanced mathematical methods. The applications of modern mathematics span from micro- and consumer electronics, including social media, to vehicle telematics systems and safety-critical activities like those of the BND and BSI. In medical technology, it supports imaging processes and the classification of image data. Understanding and implementing processes like cryptology isn't enough. Constantly adapting and developing these procedures, and critically assessing their adequacy, security, and reliability, requires a deep understanding of mathematical disciplines such as coding theory, cryptology, and pattern recognition. This level of expertise can't be achieved in non-mathematical courses. F

Application Requirements

Language Requirements

For degree programmes offered completely in English, you must provide evidence of English language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The following examinations are recognised as proof: internationally recognised language test: TOEFL- internet based test (iBT or iBT Home Edition) at least 79 points, not older than 2 years IELTS - Academic version (International English Language Testing System) at least band 6.0 FCE- First Certificate in English Students who have completed their studies in English do not need any additional proof of language proficiency.

Qualification Requirements

The certificate check is done by us according to the evaluation guidelines of the ZAB of the Kultusministerkonferenz (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) and the result must lead to one of the three entitlements in order for you to be able to apply to study at our university: the entitlement for direct university admission the authorisation for university admission (subject-oriented) Entitlement to admission to higher education via the Feststellungsprüfung (FSP)
