Ludwig Maximilians University Munich
Munich
Neuro | Cognitive Psychology
Subjects: Cognitive Psychology;Neuropsychology;Psychology
M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
Since its inception as a scientific field, Psychology has aimed to explain and predict human behavior. This involves understanding a range of core functions and dysfunctions, such as sensation and perception, learning and memory, attention, working memory, motor and executive control, and social cognition. These mental processes rely on specific brain circuits. Over the past thirty years, psychology has increasingly focused on the brain's role in general information processing and how this information guides behavior. To explore these areas, the field has expanded its methods beyond traditional experimental psychology, which includes measuring reaction times and perceptual thresholds. Now, it also employs neuroscientific techniques like electroencephalography (EEG), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). These advancements have given rise to an innovative, interdisciplinary research and educational field known as "Cognitive Neuroscience" or "Neuro-Cognitive Psychology." This new focus has enriched our understanding of how the brain supports mental processes and behavior. It has also led to the development of study programs that integrate these insights, fostering a deeper comprehension of the human mind.
