American Studies
Subjects: American Studies;Culture;Linguistics;Literature
M.A. | Master of Arts
Course description
The master's program in American Studies offers a deep dive into American language, literature, culture, and their theories. Building on the B.A. American Studies program at the University of Mainz, it also welcomes students from literature, culture, history, and political science backgrounds from Germany, Europe, and beyond. Over the past decade, American Studies has evolved significantly. The traditional focus on the United States' language, literature, and culture has broadened. The newer concept of transnational American studies now includes regions like the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Pacific, expanding both conceptually and methodologically. This program is research-oriented, providing students with the tools to explore these diverse areas. It fosters an inclusive environment, encouraging applications from a wide range of academic backgrounds. The goal is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of American Studies, preparing them for advanced research and professional opportunities in this dynamic field.
