English Literatures
Subjects: English Studies;Literature
M.A. | Master of Arts
Course description
The four-semester Master's programme offers a deep dive into English literatures and cultures, emphasizing a methodological approach to literary studies. The curriculum is structured to boost critical understanding by examining texts within their historical and cultural contexts, their interactions with other literatures, and through various perspectives such as historical scholarship, aesthetics, close textual analysis, and contemporary literary and cultural theories and poetics. Students explore literary texts as both works of art and as reflections of historical and media-specific transformations. Literature is viewed as a key player in shaping cultural knowledge and individual self-conception. This M.A. programme, while primarily taught, strongly encourages self-directed research and project work. Classes are conducted in English, and the programme includes specialized English Language modules. The programme aims to prepare students for careers in cultural professions, media, academia, and other fields that require advanced skills in text writing, organization, and communication. The degree is awarded upon the acceptance of a Master's thesis.
